Gatsby's Vintage Jazz Band
Gatsby’s Vintage Jazz Band reproduces the music of Jelly Roll Morton and King Oliver. The band was formed in 2017 by Peter Milley and Sophia Macrae.
In 2018 the GVJB (aka The Gatsbies) laid down six tracks for the movie Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears and also featured in the ballroom scene of the movie which opened in February 2020. By then, Gatsby's Vintage Jazz Band was making its mark at jazz clubs around Victoria.
The GVJB started performing again after the Covid shutdown in 2022, however Peter Milley's health deteriorated. Peter, local Geelong identity, trumpeter, film maker and raconteur sadly passed away in 2025. During his period of illness he had a vision of fostering and promoting live jazz and was a driver for the re-establishment of the Geelong Jazz & Blues Festival. The Gatsbies are proud to keep Peter's passion for piano-based hot 1920s jazz alive. The Gatsby’s performance at the Geelong Jazz & Blues Festival 2026 is a tribute to the memory of Peter Milley.
