The Jazz Apprentices is a Geelong-based ensemble that grew organically out of the North Geelong Community Big Band. As a small group of players became increasingly committed to developing their craft, they began attending the Geelong Jazz Club’s Jazz Jammers program, where they found both direction and momentum under the mentorship of pianist Felix Blatt.

Shaped by this blend of community roots and focused musical development, The Jazz Apprentices has evolved into a spirited ensemble with a warm, collaborative sound. The group is ushering in a new generation of players who are growing in their ability to improvise and express jazz in their own unique style, bringing fresh energy to classic swing, blues, and exploring more contemporary compositions.

With each performance, the ensemble honours its beginnings while confidently stepping into new musical territory, proving that with commitment, curiosity and good mentorship, emerging musicians can create something genuinely compelling together.
